Mac Pro 1.1 El Capitan Install
Instead of using internet recovery follow this link, How to upgrade to OS X El Capitan β Apple Support
This is how to install Mac OS X 10.11 'El Capitan' on an unsupported Mac Pro. In this video, I use a Mac Pro 1,1 (that has been flashed to 2,1 firmware). To download Mac OS X El Capitan from the App Store, follow the link: Download OS X El Capitan. On the El Capitan, click the Download button. Next, a file Install OS X El Capitan will download. On my Mac Pro 1,1 I installed an Apple/ATI HD4870 (RV770?) video card and it works fine with most newer distros (but I didn't want to go through the Debian Net install gyrations. Fully how the Debian Jessie distro can't get the HD4870 working but Ubuntu and others got it to work right out of the box. At Section 4 click on Download OS X El Capitan. This will download the Install MacOSX.dmg.
Once the download has finished double-click on the .dmg, this will open up to Install MacOSX,pkg,
double-clicking on that will open an installation window. Follow the prompts (this does not install El Capitan)
and it will convert the .pkg to the Install OS X El Capitan.app. You can use that to install El Capitan directly,
but be mindful that the app will self delete on completion of the installation process. An alternative and

more useful approach would be to create a bootable USB installer.

The version of El Capitan it installs is 10.11.6 the last version, there was no version 10.11.11.
